On February 10th I got the random urge to start a garden. So, hubby and I went out and bought a ton of baby plants!
We bought three different types of lettuce, spinach, strawberries, rosemary, cilantro, and orange mint.
I got everything prepped and ready, then it was time to rock & roll! Rosko was even excited to start gardening!I started with the lettuce bowl. I purchased three different types of lettuce : Buttercrunch, Red lettuce and Romaine.
I filled the bowl up about an inch or two from the rim of the bowl.
I then arranged the lettuce in rows. and Voila! Lettuce bowl planted and ready to grow!!!
About a month and a half later the Salad bowl is healthy and happy! My husband and I have already had 3 salads from it! As our lettuce grows I have been pulling the larger leaves from the outside and letting the middle grow! Next up is the spinach bowl. They type of spinach I purchased is called Bonnie Spinach.
Next up are some yummy herbs! Rosemary and Orange Mint!
My favorite brand for buying plants is Bonnie Plants. I absolutely LOVE that they come in biodegradable pots! All you do is clip the plastic information rings off the top, soak the plant for a few minutes then tear off the bottom and plant! No plastic waste!
Cilantro was lucky enough to get his own pot! Again, this is Bonnie Plants brand (Which I highly recommend!). When you tear off the bottom part of the biodegradable pot you rip it up and toss it in with the soil! How neat is that?
Just like the other plants, fill with soil about one to two inches from the top and plant your herb in!
Since I bought my first batch of plants back in February, my garden has now doubled, maybe even tripled!!!
I now have Green bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, red bell peppers, anaheim peppers, tomatoes, japanese cucumber, japanese eggplant, carrots, lavender, spearmint, beets, garlic, two different types or blue berries, basil, cilantro, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, rosemary, orange mint, lemon tree and lime tree!
Wow, huh! I have found a new love, GARDENING! I love being able to go out and pick my own lettuce for a salad and not have to buy store bought lettuce. Everything tastes better when it’s fresh!
Do you guys have a garden? What do you have planted?
